I feel like the last couple of years have been so heavy.  So many of us have been in survival mode and so many of us have been living in fear and confusion and doubt.  The state of the world also seems so chaotic and unstable.  With all this heaviness, I've been thinking a lot about joy.  And more specifically, how I can experience more joy, be more joyful, and spread joy regularly.  This episode lays out some easy stepping stones to do just that!

But welcome, welcome. Welcome to our new and refreshed podcast. We are now self worth with Jaclyn Steele. I recorded a new intro, I recorded a new outro I recorded a new podcast trailer, I updated the website, I updated the artwork, I updated all of the graphics, and here I am. I'm feeling refreshed. I'm feeling excited. I'm feeling reinvigorated. This change has been a long time coming, and it's here. Welcome to self worth. With Jaclyn Steele, I want to have a very grateful sendoff to our old name of self discovery, it served me well it served us well. But now we are getting a little bit more specific. We are honing in and we are going deeper. And my hope is that with this new change over your takeaways will elevate your self worth every single time you pop on and listen to one of these episodes. That being said, Now I want to dive in this month in the month of June, we're talking about self expression. I've missed a couple of weeks, please forgive me. I've been traveling and in different time zones with a four month old mothers, I know you can relate to this. I haven't had a lot of sleep. I haven't had a lot of time to myself. And I have not had a lot of time to record a podcast in quiet. But here I am. I'm back. And today we're talking about joy and radical joy when it comes to self expression. I feel like the last couple of years have been so heavy. So many of us have been in survival mode. And so many of us have been living in fear and confusion and doubt. And it's understandable because the state of the world also seems so chaotic and unstable. With all this heaviness. I've been thinking a lot about joy. And more specifically, how can I experience more joy, be more joyful and spread joy regularly. Joy is a high frequency feeling. And we've chatted about this before. But whatever we want more of the surest way to have it is to be it. So if I want more joy, the fastest way to get there is to be more joyful. So then the question becomes, how do I become more joyful? And I believe that self expression is a catalyst for joy. Think about music. Now think about a song that gets you super pumped. The first one that comes to mind for me is thrift shop by Macklemore. And Ryan Lewis. You guys know what I'm talking about, right? Every time I hear that song, it just hits you know what I mean? There's something about the beat and the levity of the lyrics that make me want to dance and move and express myself. So music is a great way to explore expressing yourself and developing that frequency of joy. I mean, think about all the times you're in a specific mood, and then you hear a song and it totally changes your mood. Yeah, songs have frequency. And when we want to switch frequencies, music is a great way to do that. Also, I used to be a musician. Music is the language of the heart. We can listen to sad songs when we're sad, clubby songs when we want to dance praise music when we want to commune with God, and joyful fun music when we want to feel happy. Music. I know I keep harping on this. But music is such a great way to explore with self expression and joy. And maybe you are a music snob. I respect that and you only like really serious stuff. And I also get that, however, I challenge you to bring some awareness to how you feel after listening to something. Does it fill you with joy? Or make you feel melancholy, or sad or happy? Or what? If it lands you on a feeling you don't particularly love feeling? Then know that it's okay to switch the station. Now I want to share a story with you. Over the last year, I've been pregnant and now postpartum for four and a half months, my body transformed to form and carry a human and is now transforming again to not being pregnant. I have so much gratitude and appreciation for my amazing body. However, it's been hard for the past year dressing like I want to dress. I've chatted about style on this podcast a lot this year because I believe it's such a big part of self worth and showing up. But for me, it's been challenging because so much of the color When that I love hasn't fit for a year. I also before we moved from Georgia and are viewed for almost a year got rid of bags and bags of clothing, so much clothing. So I've been in need of some new duds, especially summer clothes because Scottsdale is as hot as the sun in the summer. And last year, I really didn't buy much clothing because I was pregnant and I didn't want to invest in a summer wardrobe that I would only be able to wear for a few months. This summer, however, I went in feeling good in my clothes makes me feel confident, and it shifts the frequency I operate on throughout the day. The truth is, I show up differently in a beautiful outfit than I do when I'm wearing yoga pants. And it's not a bad thing. It's just different. So I really went for my summer wardrobe. I bought several silk skirts, they are so luxurious and amazing. I bought some really high quality T shirts and tank tops and several dresses and I even got some new workout gear. expressing myself through fashion gives me so much joy. it infuses self worth into my day in two minutes. Because the clothing I wear makes me feel like I respect myself. So I want to ask you, how does the way you dress make you feel? Does it make you feel joyful? And if not, what can you switch up to make it so I'm not saying you need to go spend a bunch of money on your wardrobe. But what you wear makes a difference in how you feel and this episode is supported by rise superfood mushroom coffee, loaded with adaptogenic mushrooms rise coffee blend delivers calmer energy, sharper focus and immune support for a balanced body and clearer mind. My friends, not all water was created equally, and some water assimilates better in our bodies than other water. And because our bodies are comprised primarily of water I'm so pumped to introduce you to natural action water technology and specifically their portable unit. The portable unit is the easiest way to revitalize water at home and on the go. You can enjoy the benefits of an energy infusion of structured water when you're out and about whether in town at a local restaurant or on the road traveling. Simply pour water through the top of the large end of the portable unit and point the small spout into any container to get the benefits of structured water. In episodes 92 and 93 of self discovery we do an in depth review of what structured water is and how important it is for our hydration but essentially structured water mimics the way water is found in nature after it tumbles down a stream. It changes the molecular structure and allows it to assimilate in our bodies better so that we stay hydrated longer and faster. It is absolutely incredible. My husband and I have been using it for about five months. I've noticed a big difference in my hydration especially being pregnant so important that I stay hydrated. I also use the structured water for our dogs and I've noticed my dogs are drinking a lot more water so they've noticed a difference. Again episodes 92 and 93 go into depth on what structured water is but I highly highly, highly recommend this portable unit. You can find it at Natural action.com And if you use code Jaclyn dash 10, you will get 10% off your order. Again, you're gonna go to natural action.com and use code Jaclyn J AC l y n dash 10. For 10% off your order, you will notice a huge difference in the way the water tastes and goes down. And a difference in your overall health. It is absolutely awesome. I love this unit. cannot recommend it enough. Okay, now back to the episode. All right, I want to share another story with you. When I started this podcast, I was coming off of a really difficult year. It was 2020. And it was before the pandemic officially started. And in 2019, I had a really weird trip to the Middle East that left me feeling confused, and weird, and totally burned out. I chronicle it in my ebook didn't break me, which is now the intro song that I recorded to this podcast and you can get that eBook for free via the link in my show notes. And my song didn't break me is streaming everywhere. Apple ID apple. Yeah, Apple iTunes, I forget what the streaming services are called Spotify, etc. It's everywhere. Anyway. I felt so off when I got home from that trip. And things with my family at the time were also like really tumultuous and I found my way back to myself through journaling. I filled the whole journal in several months I like really, really, really got into journaling. It was so cathartic to just write out what I was feeling. And then to document what I was doing that made me feel like I was finding my way back to myself. Those things that helped me find my way back to myself or what the ebook is about. So all this to say, writing is such a healthy form of self expression. And when we offload the toxic gunk, joy can rise to the surface much faster, because there's more space for it. Like all those ping pong ball thoughts, all that toxic gunk swirling in your head or in your body. It has to get out and writing is such an easy way to do that. And it makes so much more space for higher vibe feelings like joy. Okay, next thing I want to chat on is boundaries. When you take stock of your life right now, does it feel mostly heavy, or mostly light? Does it feel like you have some time for yourself, or that you are stretched super thin. bringing awareness to your current state will allow you to get a baseline and having an accurate baseline will help you form an action plan to make space for more joy. Boundaries show self worth big time. And in order to establish boundaries that requires you to express yourself. This can be really challenging, believe me, I know I've struggled with it. I'm getting better, but still not easy. We want to think of boundaries as black and white. But really, they are pretty colorful. Different relationships require different boundaries. And depending on where you are at in your own personal self worth. Establishing boundaries may be an ongoing process and relationships. Sometimes boundaries are laid brick by brick as you build your confidence with them. That's okay. It's all okay. However, if we want more joy in our lives, 10 times out of 10 it requires boundaries to be laid. That co worker that sucks the air out of the room boundaries. You're anxious mom who worries about everything, boundaries, that friend that is a victim to everything in their life, and sucks the energy out of you. Boundaries. That social media troll that loves to call you out on everything they perceive you do wrong boundaries. That person that always wants to sign you up for something or wants more of you than you have to give boundaries. That family member that continuously crosses the line boundaries. That person that misunderstands your good intentions over and over. Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries, boundaries, you get the idea. We tend to not think saying yes to little things is a big deal. But those little things add up to a big deal. Think of the water in a bottle as your energy. Is the bottle full. Is it halfway? Is it empty? When we create awareness around how we feel and how much To energy we have, it's easy to make healthy decisions that support our joy to saying yes to that add more energy into your bottle, or does it drain it, and if it drains it, how will you refill it as soon as possible, we do not have to live on empty, or even live in the in between. We can live with a glass that is full all the time. It just requires some awareness and healthy boundaries to do so. So if you are like me, and you want to feel be an experience more joy in your life, then think about the ways in which you can express yourself to do so. It can be as simple as making time to read a book even wanting to read just for the joy of it. Or painting a room in your house or booking a trip or expressing a healthy boundary. Or eating a beautiful meal or wearing a self expressive outfit. Or jamming out to a song that makes you feel super vibey self expression isn't a luxury my friends. It's a necessity. God gave us a voice for a reason. Artists make art for a reason. And joy, my friends is waiting for me waiting for you to all we have to do is make intentional room for it and it will come
