Self-Worth with Jaclyn Steele
Self-care: way beyond the obvious
Show Notes Transcript

Self-care isn't a luxury, it's a necessity, and it starts with self-love.  Massages, chocolate, nice dinners, fancy things - they are all nice, but they aren't real self-care.  Real self-care is about introspection.  It's about honoring our heart's desires, paying attention to our bodies signals, and trusting our gut instincts.  If we do this regularly, there is no limit on the amount of self-worth, joy, satisfaction, or high frequency feelings we will feel.

This isn't about wearing that special perfume every day instead of only on special occasions. This isn't about bubble baths. Although I love those this isn't about treating yourself to a nice dinner, although you definitely should. This is about self care, and how it's a practice and how self care at its core is self love. If you're like me, you need a breather around that one, I understand the concept of self love. But I don't necessarily understand it. In practice, although I'm getting better and better and better. What do you think about when you hear the term self care? Initially, when I started learning about self care, it was about chocolates and treating ourselves. It reminds me of that episode of Parks and Rec with Aziz Ansari. And there's another actress I forget her name in the show anyway, I think the episode is called treat yourself. And it's all about doing fun things for yourself. And it's great and it looks like the best time and I highly recommend doing that. But to me, self care goes way, way beyond the obvious. And self love, as I mentioned is a practice. It's not necessarily something that we are born doing well. So how can you love yourself today, tomorrow and deeply for the rest of your life, every single part of you all of it. Not only will this make your life more beautiful, and a lot more joy filled. It's also what we are called to do as humans to love ourselves to fullness. We are here on this planet to fully express the power, the power her of who we are. When we cannot do that, if we are not in love with ourselves. We just can't. We're not going to have the confidence to do it. We're going to be riddled with self doubt, we're going to be riddled with self worth issues. Self love, is the bed rock, to this expansive version of ourselves. So what does that look like? It looks like lightening up on yourself. It looks like being a better manager when it comes to negative self talk. It looks like being a little easier on yourself when maybe you didn't check off everything on your very ambitious to do list. It looks like sleeping when you're tired. Instead of having another cup of coffee or an energy drink. This past Monday morning, just a few days ago, I was doing a meditation. And I saw a version of myself a much, much younger version of myself. And for the first time, truly for the first time, I recognized how she has busted her butt for so long. And what I mean by that is, she has gotten up every day, and tried to be a kind, generous, loving, productive, ambitious human being. I haven't given her that credit. I've been asking her to do more, more, more, more, more, more more. All these years, even as my body has become more tired and more tired from so many years of not resting enough. I've been asking more and more and more of her. And this experience of literally seeing her I saw her crouched in the kitchen of a house I used to live in when I was 18. Just sobbing and thinking, why haven't I taken the time? Why haven't I had the the awareness to thank this beautiful young woman whose heart was so pure, and who tried to the best of her ability with the tools that she had at the time and beyond. And as I looked at this precious version of myself, this younger, a little bit more naive version. I thanked her. And I thanked her deeply. From deep, deep, deep within my heart, I recognized all of the effort that she has put in over the past 36 years. That's a long time. I feel like in some ways, I'm just now learning at 36 How to take a real break that isn't like a TV break or a reading break or I don't know, a masterclass break, like a real break, allowing myself to recalibrate allowing my body to recalibrate. Make a practice of thanking yourself for how far you have come. This is so powerful you guys because you have come so far. And it may be that you want to go farther. And that's great, and you can but it's really powerful to recognize how much you've already done. You wouldn't be where you are at right now, if you hadn't made those perceived wrong steps. Self love, self care is this gratitude for ourselves, and a sense of forgiveness for the, quote, missteps that we've made, even though they've all been on purpose because they've led us to where we're at, and we're exactly where we need to be right now. This episode of self worth is powered by conscious copper. Since having my son Roman, I've been a little obsessive about EMF radiation, because I did research on what that radiation does to our bodies and especially those of infants. This EMF radiation seems to be coming at us from everywhere, our cell phones, electronic devices, 5g and then Wi Fi in general, our bodies simply are not equipped to deal with this constant onslaught of radiation. To combat this, I found conscious copper. I did a lot of online research and I bought several of their products and fell so in love with them that I reached out to conscious copper and asked to become an affiliate. There beam technology, which is trademarked is based on a bio energetic approach to health. It features dual level technology that offers effective protection from the damaging effects of EMF radiation, and it provides support for the body's health when you're wearing one of these devices or near One of these devices, the first level of action harmonizes, the negative energetic frequencies of the electromagnetic radiation. The second level of action supports the cells in your body as they are stressed by the radiation, bringing their energy to an optimal level for good health. The beam technology operates at the sub atomic level, so it does not block or alter the actual electromagnetic frequencies, allowing your electronic devices to still operate normally. I have conscious coppers quantum EMF necklace, unlike so many other EMF mitigating wearables, this one is simple and beautiful and made of copper. It's also considerably more affordable than other EMF necklaces, it's only 68 bucks, and the price goes down. If you buy multiples, I have one, Sam has one and we have one for Roman when he's old enough to wear it. I also have their ripple cellphone EMF defense, it plugs into your cell phone where the charger input is. And I literally use this every minute that my phone is not on the charger. I've noticed a difference in using both of these. It's wild, but there is a sense of calm that they carry because I'm not being bombarded with EMF radiation. I also feel so good knowing that I am mitigating the amount of EMF radiation that is coming into contact with my young, growing sun. Conscious copper also has rings, bracelets, and home EMF mitigating devices, you will love these products to purchase go to conscious copper.com and use code steel 10 s t e l e 10 for 10% off your order. Again, that's code steel 10 for 10% off your order, all links and discount codes are in the show notes. Friends, this concept keeps coming up in my life. And it's applicable to me. And I'm guessing if you're still listening to this episode, it's also applicable to you. We want to run fast. Not had like a leisurely walk, not at a YARGH. But at a run all the time. And we want to do this without enough fuel. We haven't slept well eaten well experienced enough joy. We come at life with our tanks on empty and expect our engines to take us across the country, we have got to slow down. This is one of those scenarios where when you come at a problem and you're trying so so so so so hard to solve it and you just can't do it. You can't do it and you get so tired and you finally take a break and then you come back 15 minutes later and it's like oh, so obvious. All I had to do is take a break. And now I get it. Here's the solution. It's the same with our overall lives. We've got to slow down, we've got to take a beat got to take a breath. Maybe you need a couple of weeks, maybe you need a month, maybe you need a year. I'm giving pretty much my whole body a break right now. I'm clean eating, no gluten, no sugar, oil. I've given up caffeine except for a cup of rise mushroom coffee in the morning. And let me tell you this system reset. While it has been challenging at times. It's amazing. It's wild what our bodies are signaling to us that we cover up with caffeine and sugar, and bad foods and whatever else. I was in the shower earlier this week, and just feeling tired. I had gotten up at 530 done a bunch of things and gone to the gym. And I'm not usually tired midday so this was a little rattling for me. It wasn't like burnt out tired. Just full body tired, you know where your limbs feel heavy. As I was thinking about it, I was truly astounded. My thought was how many years have I been putting a bandaid on my exhaustion with caffeine. And I only drink one cup a day,

a really stout cup. I feel like it probably had legs.

Jaclyn Steele:

But still. Our bodies are not machines. We are living breathing beings with needs and they need to be tended to. So tying back in to my meditation and the way that I am learning to change my perspective about myself. My ego, wants recognition for the goodness in me from others. But when I did that meditation, I realized, I want this recognition from others, but I withhold that same recognition from myself. I'm in a constant loop of, I never do enough. But the truth is, and I am betting that the same is true for you. I am constantly doing friends, I want to challenge you. And I want to challenge myself, to love my misinterpretation of myself into truth. What I mean by that is, you misinterpret how much you are doing. Love yourself so much that you start to recognize how much you do and how much that doing is worth. It may just feel like getting groceries. But really, it's feeding yourself and your family. It may just feel like cleaning the kitchen. But it's creating a peaceful environment for you and your family to enjoy. We don't give ourselves credit for the mundane. But it's time we bring some sacred energy to the mundane and start appreciating how important the seemingly mundane figures into the enjoyment of our lives. Were laying bricks for a beautiful house that protects us. That gives us space for joy and peace and comfort and rest. Self Care, self love, rest, meditation, being aware of the ego, self love and self care. It looks like bringing awareness to the negative thoughts that we have. All negative thoughts are an opportunity to lead us back to love. Especially the negative thoughts we have about ourselves. Self love, cures the aid of self loathing, self doubt, self criticism, the anxiety over whether or not we're doing enough self love stops us in our tracks and gently points to all the goodness we bring into the world and it says luck, love. Look at how wonderful you are. I want you to say that to yourself right now. Luck, my love. Look at how wonderful you are. You are beautiful listeners. Self care. It isn't a luxury. It's a necessity. And like I've said over and over in this episode, it starts with self love. massages, chocolate, nice dinners, fancy things. They're all nice, but they aren't real self care. Real Self care is about introspection. It's about honoring our hearts desires. Paying attention to our bodies, signals, and trusting our gut instincts. This bears repeating. Real Self care is about introspection. It's about honoring our hearts desires, paying attention to our body's signals, and trusting our gut instincts. If we do this regularly, there is no limit on the amount of self worth, joy, satisfaction, or high frequency feelings we can feel. I want to end with an excerpt from the book get your life back by John Eldridge. In the book he shares we have a lot of dog walkers in our neighborhood. Mostly out in the mornings and evenings. I've been watching this one fellow who has an odd looking dog mid size that doesn't fit any breed I'm familiar with. He looks like a loaf of bread. Cute, but he seems reluctant to participate in the walking ritual. Every time I see them. The owner is out front arm and leash fully extended behind him. Coming along behind moseying not for Lauren but just kind of added own pace is this little mutt the owner is clearly trying to get some exercise get a workout in as the saying goes because it is something to be jammed into a frenzied life. His dog, on the other hand, is simply out to be out to enjoy the world. Today, the mud had rolled over on his back on the sidewalk, paws up in the air and playful protest, while the owner was out front arm and leash fully extended, tugging to get his companion moving. It made me laugh. And then I realized, that's my soul. That's me and my soul. I'm trying to get my soul to come along in a way of life. It just doesn't want to cooperate with pay attention. If it feels like you're dragging your soul along behind you. Take notice. Maybe you're asking it to work at the speed of advanced technology. Maybe it means you're asking it to move too quickly through the myriad challenges of your life. With no transition. It might just need to lie on its back and put its paws in the air for a few minutes. So friends, if you need to stop and lay back and put your paws in the air for a few minutes. This is your full permission and sign to do so.
